This compilation takes you on a thrilling journey to our production team’s experience during the making of our film “ctrl-f-esc” for The Manila Film Festival.
This certificate serves as our starting point in joining The Manila Film Festival. Out of 30+ entries we became part of the top 4 productions that the Manila City Hall has granted a cash prize to produce the screenplay that we've wrote.
Before proceeding to the production, we decided to create a small production team with very talented and passionate students who can be with us throughout our journey. That's when Silip@lente studio production was created. It was a production that was recognized by our University and it's composed of 20 passionate students. During the production process I was assigned as the production's assistant director. At first I thought it will be an easy job since I'm only tasked to do the schedule and make sure that everything is right during the production process. But this experience have thought me a lot of things. During the production, I had to remove members who aren't deserving to be part of the team. I had to be fair with others and be strict when it's needed, and being strict is very new to me that time since people know me as very soft hearted and jolly person, It was really a big step for me, but all I was thinking that time is that I need to be professional for the betterment of our film. I've already started it and accepted the role and I must stand for it and finish what I've started.
Having a small starting production and composed by students is not easy. There where times that most of the team had to take their examination during our scheduled shoot and only 5 members of the team where available to attend. We have to make the most out of those 5 members as we cannot reschedule the shoot so even though we know that it's going to be hard we still pushed through to our schedule, and we needed to be part of different roles on the production. I, the assistant director has to do logistic's job, order foods and hold lights and at the same time manage the shoot. It was very hard but luckily we where able to finish it successfully.
We've encountered a lot of problems during the production, from location to transportation and etc. And that has thought me that being the assistant director of a production team is never going to be easy. I always need to solve an unwanted and sudden issues that the team will encounter and at the same time I need to talk to everyone including our mentor, artist and keep them updated about the schedule. It's just work above work above work and it's not stopping (not until weeks after the film was premiered).
I'm still thankful of this experience as this has introduced me to the world of the film industry. And to be honest I'm still expecting a much worse experience in the future as this was just the beginning of my journey. I know that I should be nervous with the much worse experience that I might encounter in the future but it's really strange cause instead of being nervous I am so excited. I may be emotional sometimes but that is something I want to work on with. I guess that's the reason why I want more.
I thought that the production phase will be the end of my job however, I was mistaken. During the Post-Production I had to re-record my original song "Kadiliman" as this will be the original soundtrack of our film and besides recording I had to step in at the editing stage as we only had a few time left and the editing team needs a hand, and as someone who has an experience in editing I wanted to make our film a good one, so even though it was not something I've agreed in the first place, part of me really wanted to help them to make our film better, and so I did. This is where I've experienced a nonstop editing, no sleep for 2 days straight just to finish it on time, my eyes where already hurting facing the screen for a very long time. The only break I had was when I needed to eat and sometime I would even forget to eat because when I'm in the zone, I forget about everything. In addition It was also our finals week and I was also doing my thesis during this production phase so.... But luckily after so many sleepless and stressing nights and days, we where able to finish the film.
These things are just some of the experience that I remember vividly but I know that there are a lot more to mention. But it has been a success. I won the Best OST award and also the best screenplay award, in addition to that our film also won the catalyst for change award. Our sound engineer won the best musical score award and our main character "Angelo" who was played by Kych Minemoto won the best actor award. It was a roller coaster experience, but it was all worth it in the end, so if you're going to ask me if I would do it again?, I definitely will do it again and again and again.
